He Gets Us: Questions Jesus Asked | Plan 3

DAY 7 OF 7

What Good Does It Do?

No matter what people think about Jesus, no one denies he was an amazing teacher.

So how do the greatest teachers of all time make you want to learn?

Think of how your favorite teacher opened a window for you. How did they let the light in? Maybe they had a way with words and they drew you like a magnet. Maybe they delivered timeless concepts on a fresh breeze. Maybe in addition to what they were teaching, they cared about you.

Jesus did all of this and more.

One of his most famous “classes” took place by a lake where people packed a hillside just to listen. You can read about it in Matthew 5. What does it mean to be happy was his topic. Happy and blessed--this coming from the man who had already carried some of life’s greatest burdens.

Happy is the person who when at the end of your rope, you turn to God—said the man who had been hungry and bullied, misunderstood and canceled.

Happy is the person who is content with just who you are—no more, no less. That’s the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can’t be bought—said the man who owned nothing.

Happy is the person who cares because at the moment of being ‘care-full,’ you find yourselves cared for—said the man who loved people others thought unlovable, who touched the untouchable, who took the time to really see and listen to and love.

Happy is the person who gets their inside world—their mind and heart—put right. Then you can see God in the outside world—said the man who taught this life is not all there is.

And then the question that has echoed through thousands of years to speak to us today. What good does it do to get everything you want and lose your soul? (Luke 9:25)

Like a good teacher, Jesus didn’t spell out the answer but he left enough breadcrumbs for us to follow the trail. Look at his life. Listen to his words. Let yourself be loved by him. All the breadcrumbs lead back to him.

He Gets Us: Questions Jesus Asked | Plan 3

It seemed that everyone had a question for Jesus. But Jesus also asked a lot of questions when he walked and talked with people just like us. In this seven-day plan, we'll look at a few of them up close — including the ones that he has for us.
