Finding Joy: The Little ThingsSample
Little Thing # 4: Romance Your Spouse
You say that you love your spouse, but do you show them eros love? Eros is the ancient Greek word for romantic love, even sexual. Do you romance your spouse? Be mindful that men and women can feel “romanced” in different ways. Did you know that being more thoughtful with time and communication also romances your spouse? As a bonus, when you show your spouse more affection, your affection for them will increase as well.
Were you aware of the entire book in the Bible dedicated to romancing your spouse? Read Song of Songs in its entirety. What joy can be experienced from the biblical example of love in marriage? Intimacy with your spouse is a gift from God. Enjoy your spouse in all the ways we were created to experience romantic love. Romance increases joy!
Although this sounds like a simple concept, how often do we practice it? Make it a habit to take time out of your busy schedule and show your spouse how much you cherish them. Have long talks, make eye contact, let them know that you enjoy being alone with them, and do something with them that you know they will enjoy. Studies show that intimacy lowers stress levels, helps with physical healing, and even aids in having a long lifespan – it’s a win/win!
