Born to Fly Like an Eagle!Sample
The Foundation
Callings are as unique as the person God has given them to. Paul, Esther, Jeremiah, and Joseph all had a calling.
They were all set apart to do something significant for the glory of God.
Can someone have several callings?
Sure.
Should all callings make an impact?
Yes.
Sometimes, though, our calling may not have the far-reaching impact we thought it would have. That’s okay. We’re not all called to do amazing miracles, make headlines in the news, gain millions of followers, be sought-after missionaries, or become CEOs of companies.
We’re all different and have our own God-given talents and strengths corresponding to a tailor-fit plan.
To figure out God’s calling for you requires that you do three things:
- Know yourself
- Pick up the clues around you (compliments, signs of God, etc.)
- Be in constant conversation with God
Fly Like an Eagle
The Bible mentions the eagle over 30 times, mostly to showcase spiritual truths or describe characteristics of a follower of God.
When you want to dive deeper into who God designed you to be and what calling(s) He has placed on your life, it’s good to start with the foundation. For the eagle, that foundation is the sun. Even though an eagle is scientifically speaking, incapable of directly looking into the sun, it does tend to gaze upward. The sun is essential in its life. This is what God is to believers: the essential, life-giving foundation.
In Colossians 3, Paul tells us to seek the things above. He even says it twice. Above is where the truth that is crucially important for our life on Earth is found. Gazing upon God helps to remove distractions created by worldly desires and allows focus, to fulfill purpose.
How To Seek The Things Above
Spend time e-v-e-r-y day with God.
Read the Bible.
Pray.
Journal.
Sing about His marvelous grace.
Etc.
The opportunity to know God is made possible through Jesus and the cross. Thanks to the Holy Spirit living in believers, access to the foundation is granted every minute of the day.
Prayer
God, thank You for being the foundation that I can stand on. Make me like the eagle that soars through the sky. Fill me with your Spirit and help me to always focus on You in everything I do.
Reflection
Every day, what can you do to focus on God?
