Royals Part III: Into ExileSample
Still Not It
Josiah still falls short of the mark. As good as he was, and despite the incredible change that he was able to bring to the land, he was still as fallen as each one of us. Zephaniah prophesied in the time of Josiah, much of his book is about the impending judgement that will come upon the land, but it finishes with a beautiful picture of what is to come.
All of this history of the kings of Israel points to the desperate need we all have for God, the true King of Israel, the Mighty Warrior. We need him to rescue us, to gather us, to bring us home, and give us honour and praise.
Jesus was that Mighty Warrior, but rather than seeking out unnecessary battles, He fought all of our battles on the Cross and with his death and resurrection declared victory over all sin and death. It is so comforting to know that Jesus has been everything we could not be and fought every battle we could not fight.
