Declutter: Overhaul Your Heart

DAY 2 OF 5

ASK FOR HELP

Don’t try to go at this alone, friend! Decluttering your heart is hard enough, but to do it in isolation makes it more difficult than it has to be. Ask God for his help.

He is our source for everything we need, and he promises in Philippians 4:19 that he will meet all of our needs. This includes our healing from the trauma or drama that began this cluttered mess in the first place. He already knows the struggles you have been having; why not have a conversation with him?

God provides all we need: a way through the wilderness of unforgiveness, a river that washes away the feelings of bitterness that may have accumulated, and beauty for the ashes of shame or regret that may be piled up.

God knows who you are down to your very first cell.

He created you, knows the pain you’ve suffered, and collects your tears. God has a way through all of the debris that betrayal, suffering, woundedness, hurt, and pain may have caused you.

Open the door wide to your soul. Invite him in to help you clear out the rubbish, take out the trash, and sweep out the dust.

He already knows. He is just waiting to be invited in so he can help.

Action Step: Spend time in prayer with God today. Ask him what he wants you to work on, then write it down and get to work!

Prayer: God in Heaven, you know where my hurts and hang-ups reside. You’ve seen the messy contents of my heart, and you love me no matter what. Please create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me, just like it says in Psalm 51:10. Help me start clearing out all of the things that are holding me back from the destiny you have for me. I want to live with a freshly scrubbed-out heart! I want to live for you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
