Daily Bible Reading – May 2022 God’s Renewing Word of Promiseਨਮੂਨਾ

May 22
Introduction
God has rejected Saul as king, and Samuel anoints David, a young shepherd boy, to be Israel’s next king. Saul is tormented by an evil spirit, and David is sent to play his harp for Saul. Saul enlists David in his service as his weapons carrier.
Scripture Reading
1 Samuel 16:1-23
Today’s Key Verse:1 Samuel 16:13a
Samuel took the olive oil and anointed David in front of his brothers. Immediately, the spirit of the LORD took control of David and was with him from that day on.
Reflect
How was David selected to be anointed as Israel’s next king? Saul may have been suffering from depression or a similar illness. In the ancient world, people believed evil spirits caused such conditions. Why does David’s harp playing make Saul feel better? Have you ever experienced the effects of soothing music?
Pray
Lord God, calm any fears I may be experiencing today, and fill me with your gentle Spirit. Trusting in your care, I rest safely in your love. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
1 Samuel 31:1-13: Saul and his sons die in battle.
