Year of the Bible: Part Two of Twelve Sample
Moses: A Deliverer Delivered in a Basket.
Moses is born in the middle of the chaotic season for the Hebrews. Fear and anxiety were indeed the emotions of the day. Look at Moses' mother, Jochebed, and sister, Miriam. Their actions tell a unique story for the day. Instead of surrendering the precious baby to be thrown into the water, His mother decided to keep in hiding, three months in all, until they could hide them no longer.
Instead of giving up, Moses' mother and sister placed him in a basket and released him to God by putting him in the river. The boldness of Miriam is impressive! She watched as Pharaoh's daughter picked Moses up and then offered to find a wet nurse for the baby. And, who was this wet nurse, but Moses' very own mother! Jochebed received her son back as from the dead at that moment. Moses would have been taken away and killed if she had attempted to keep him. Instead, she surrendered him to the Lord, received him back again, and cared for him until he was two years old.
You can never know the outcome of your trusting obedience, and that's ok! Your job is to trust God, and it's his job to accomplish His plan. Little did Jochebed know, she was raising her son to deliver her people from the hand of Pharaoh. Letting go of her son didn't make earthly sense, but she chose to trust God anyway, and you know the rest of the story.
Question: Where might you need to "let go" and trust God?
Prayer Focus: Trust is faith in action. Ask God for the courage to "do it afraid" and not just wait until you feel confident, but to step into the confidence He is ready to provide.
