Fasting to Be Hungry

DAY 3 OF 3

Fasting by Faith

When we begin to understand that there is something to be obtained through fasting, we understand why Jesus did not say "If you fast" but "When you fast". For our master, fasting is part of the disciple's habits just like generosity or prayer.

We must therefore fast by faith, that is, by believing that God will reward us. God wants to bless us; fasting is a way to receive His blessings. I define the attitude that pleases God in fasting by 3 words.

Faith. It may sound crazy that by stopping eating, you're going to be blessed, but it's a promise from God, so I believe it.

Obedience. You can read and study about fasting, but until you take action, you can't be rewarded.

Privacy. Fasting is a private discipline. One day when I began a 21-day water fasting, the Holy Spirit confided in me that He was looking forward to the time we would spend together. Someone who fasts talks about God differently because he has access to his privacy.

If you start fasting, go gradually.

Set a time frame (1, 3, 7, 21, or 40 days) to have a goal.

Determine the type of fast:

dry (no more than 3 days), water or juice (no pulp to avoid diarrhea),

or partial (only vegetables, no sugar, etc.).

With affection, I allow myself to say that a Facebook fast is not fasting but consecration.

Fasting must make you hungry.

Make sure you drink abundantly, take care of your body, the goal is not to make it suffer.

Avoid stimulants like coffee or tea.

Then set a prayer program, that is, the time you will spend with God and what you will do there (reading the Bible, enjoying praise and worship, listening to God, or reading a lesson).

When you finish fasting, start eating slowly again, for example with vegetable soups, and stop eating before you are full so as not to upset your stomach.

Finally, here are some characteristics of the river of the water of life that flows from the throne of God, which Jesus invites us to drink when we are thirsty:

  • A river that flows without drying up = There is more to drink than your current thirst
  • A pure and limpid river = Authentic intimacy with God
  • A river flowing out of the throne of God and the Lamb = Communion with Jesus and the Father
  • A river that gives life. It counteracts the effects of the destroyer
  • A river that produces abundance = God's power is available
  • A supernatural harvest = miracles
  • Accelerated growth = it's beyond us
  • A river that allows healing
  • Ezekiel saw the same river coming out of the throne of God and he adds that it cleanses, and purifies. Sometimes we struggle with sins and habits; fasting breaks the chains and purifies our hearts.

I hope this plan has made you thirsty and hungry to try fasting with a purpose. I invite you to discover my audioguide 21 days listening to God to learn how to recognize God's sweet voice, it will be a perfect companion for your fast.

Day 2

About this Plan

Fasting to Be Hungry

When I started fasting, I didn't understand the purpose of it. I was simply participating in an activity in my church. Since then, I have discovered the power of fasting, and its impact on my life has been enormous. I invite you to discover with me one aspect of fasting: the development of spiritual hunger.
