Kingdom View on Relationships
How do you view relationships at work?
The world influences us to view those relationships as a means of getting things done. We learn strategies for navigating relationships at work that protect us and leverage our ability to succeed. But God views relationships very differently. His Word instructs us to treat people with love and help them when they’re in need. This includes people at work.
We need to shift our mindset from:
- I don’t need to build relationships at work … to relationships at work are a priority.
- Fear of being vulnerable … to trusting God to protect us.
- Relationships are draining … to God provides an endless supply of the energy I need.
- Comparison and jealously … to a desire to truly get to know people.
- We aren’t on the same level … to we are both made in the image of God.
- I’ll be nice to people who treat me well … to loving others because God first loved us.
The way we build relationships at work is significant to our participation in bringing God’s Kingdom to Earth. How we interact with people every day can have eternal impact, for better or worse. We have a responsibility to consciously choose to see all relationships through a Kingdom lens and act accordingly.
Relationships at work can be challenging. The demands, stress, and personal agendas of people at work are bound to lead to tension and misunderstandings. That is why we must rely on the help of the Holy Spirit in us to cultivate loving, healthy relationships in all circumstances.
Paul provides instructions for how to build Kingdom relationships in Romans 12:9-18. He tells us to love one another with genuine affection, delight in honoring others, exercise patience, bless those who give you trouble, just to name a few.
The relationships we build will last forever ... the money we make and title we achieve do not. Over the next 4 days we will take a deeper dive to equip you to build Kingdom relationships at work.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to see the people I interact with at work through your eyes. Prepare my heart for the adjustments I need to make to build Kingdom relationships with people at work. Amen.
