Cornerstone – Reason to Believe (In God, the Bible and All of That)

DAY 4 OF 5

God’s Plan Is Put Into Action Through Jesus

Have you ever heard someone make a crazy sounding claim? What was it, and how did you work out whether their claim was true or not?

CONSIDER:

In what ways can you see that Jesus is unique?

Does it make sense to you that contradictory things cannot both be true (like a God existing and not existing at the same time)? What does this mean for how we view the world’s many different religions?

How should we relate to people with different beliefs to our own? How could we positively explain our belief that religious truth exists?

Read 1 Peter 3:15-16. What points does it make about this?

REFLECTION:

What did you learn from today’s tutorial and discussion? What is your own response to the claim that our society often makes that all religions are the same, and that all paths lead to God?

PRAYER:

Dear God, thank you for providing a path on which we could be saved from the consequences of our own wrongs. We don’t deserve any of what you have so freely offered us through Jesus. Thank you!

We apologise for our thinking which is often unclear. The voices of our culture encourage us to deny the possibility that an actual spiritual truth and reality exists and can be known. We choose to resist this pressure. We believe you exist and that you have deliberately worked to make yourself known to us.

Help us to see you as you are — having gone further than any of us would have to provide a path to salvation for us. Thank you for giving us forgiveness for our wrongs as a gift through what Jesus did. Thank you for the teachings of Jesus too, which show us your ways of love and justice, grace and mercy, generosity and kindness. You have given us great hope. Help us to share this hope.

In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

About this Plan

Cornerstone – Reason to Believe (In God, the Bible and All of That)

Could you explain concisely why Christians believe in (1) a God, (2) who’s made himself known through history, (3) who has a good plan for us, (4) put into place through Jesus, (5) that’s working to make a difference in our lives? This devotional explores some of the amazing reasons and a fresh look at believing this faith – so we can share it with clarity and hope!
