Led by the Holy SpiritSample
Day#2. The Rhema word, the light of the Holy Spirit
A good way to read the Bible is to read a book continuously. In this way, you will have the opportunity to regularly experience the mysterious and glorious experience of the Rhema words.
Rhema is a Greek word, which means a spoken word.
Jesus says that we must live by every word that comes out of the mouth of God. A Bible verse might just be an ancient text to one person while to another, it is an answer to a prayer, a consolation, a guideline, a warning, or a confirmation.
A good habit to have when reading the Bible (in addition to underlining what moves you, so you can come back to it later) is to keep a notebook or a journal in which you write down the verses that speak to you with the date. God can speak to you through a bundle of elements over a long period of time. Each element individually may seem small, but put together, these elements can change the course of your life as a result of the decisions they help you make.
So when you have to make a decision, withdraw to a quiet place, ask God to speak to you, then open your Bible where you closed it the day before and continue reading.
I have personally made decisions as important as changing my studies, my career, moving to another country or going to Bible school based on Rhema words. Each of these verses is for me a milestone on the path of my life. I remember the verse and also the version of the Bible in which I read it. Sometimes a verse we have read dozens of times will hit us just when we need it and read it in a new version. This is also why I change the version of my Bible every 2 years. This way, the text stays fresh for me and always attracts my attention.
There is a difference between looking up what the Bible says about a particular subject in order to read the corresponding verses and a Rhema word. A Rhema word or verse is like a sword that pierces our heart. It is as if the words come out of the page, our heart may even start beating faster as we read those few words.
I invite you to pray with me. Let’s pray together :
Father, I decide to live by every word that comes out of your mouth. I choose to expect you to speak to me through the Bible. Holy Spirit, surprise me! Amen
