Living Water

DAY 8 OF 11

Inviting others to come to Jesus

“So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people, ‘Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?’ They went out of the town and were coming to him.” (John 4:28-30)

Jesus has told the woman at the well that He is the Messiah. His amazing knowledge about her personal life gives his claim credibility. And the coming of the Messiah is great news! After all, He is “the Savior of the world” (John 4:42). His “living water” is far more important than drawing natural water. So, the woman leaves her water jar and goes into her town to share the good news with her fellow citizens. On their turn, they listen to her and come to Jesus.

Both the woman and her fellow citizens are an example for us. It’s not obvious that people respond to the Gospel by coming to Jesus. The people in Bethlehem did not when they heard about his birth. The priests in Jerusalem didn’t go to Bethlehem when the Magi told them that the King of the Jews was born. Many people just put the Gospel aside.

The woman tells others about her discovery. She invites them to come and see for themselves. That is what every Christian should do! We won’t always get a positive response, maybe we will even be ridiculed, but the good news about Jesus Christ is too important to keep silent.

How could you share the Gospel?

About this Plan

Living Water

The Gospel of John shows us who Jesus is. In chapter 4, we read how Jesus reveals Himself in a conversation with a Samaritan woman at a well. This story contains many lessons for us. John has written it down for us, “so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name” (John 20:31)
