God With Us
READ: Isaiah 7:14, 9:6-7
The prophet Isaiah lived 700 years before Jesus was born. That’s a lot of years! The book of Isaiah includes a foretelling of the birth of God’s son: he would be born of a virgin and His name would be called Immanuel. Did you know that Immanuel means God with us? Immanuel is just one of many names that Isaiah says the coming Savior would be known by. Isaiah 9:6 is a beautiful reminder and glorious description of our Messiah, Jesus. He is a Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace! What hope we have in Him!
ASK:
Prophecies, like the ones we read today, are promises from God. And we know God always keeps His promises. Isaiah proclaims that God will be with us through His son Jesus. What does it mean to you to have God with you?
GO:
LET’S MAKE A CHAIN!
Who doesn’t love paper chains in white, green, and red hanging on the Christmas tree? Write the words that describe Jesus from Isaiah 9:6 on individual pieces of colorful construction paper and make a paper chain! (You’ll need construction paper, glue or staples, and scissors.) Every time you see the chain on your tree, be reminded of who Jesus is and that he is with you!

About this Plan

As we anticipate the birth and celebration of Jesus Christ, let’s help our families slow down and take time to really think about our Savior’s coming. This devotional experience is meant to do just that! Give you and your family dedicated time each day to READ (the scripture), ASK (some questions) and GO (serve our family, neighbors, and world).
