DAY 2 OF 6

Al Pachino won an Oscar for his monologue in one of the greatest movies ever made. He plays a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel, and in this monologue, he talks in reference to Charlie (a high school student who plays Al's assistant) and it goes like this... "I don't know who went to this place, William Howard Taft, William Jennings Bryan, William Tell -- whoever. Their spirit is dead -- if they ever had one -- it's gone. And if you think you're preparing these minnows for manhood you better think again. Because I say you are killing the very spirit this institution proclaims it instills! What a sham..... There was a time I could see. And I have seen boys like these, younger than these, their arms torn out, their legs ripped off. But there isn't nothin' like the sight of an amputated spirit; there is no prosthetic for that. You think you're merely sendin' this splendid foot-soldier back home to Oregon with his tail between his legs, but I say you are executin' his SOUL!!..."

I fell in love with this monologue, and it was certainly deserving of an Oscar. And, it is true. There is no prosthetic for a broken spirit. The only thing that can fix it, is LOVE, TRUTH, LIGHT, HOPE and all of these are what we get by adjoining to His Spirit by salvation.

When we break a bone, burn a finger, or twist an ankle, we address it by going to the doctor. Because the body is natural and it has to be fixed naturally. However, we try the same methods to fix a broken spirit, we try medication or therapy, or psychological motivations, etc, etc. It cannot be fixed naturally. The body responds to the natural, but the spirit only responds to the spiritual. It has to be fixed by the Word. No wonder, Jesus says, Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.

The eyes and ears of your body are the windows to your soul. The bible says Faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God. If your ear keeps hearing the lies of the devil, the spirit will be starved of the truth of God, and eventually, your spirit will be broken. The devil wants to steal kill and destroy and therefore, he tries to stop faith from entering into your ears by distracting you. We must be sensitive to these tricks of the devil. No wonder now, people would rather spend hours before screens than 10 mins before the bible because the devil has tricked them into feeding their body and starving their spirit.

David was a young and ruddy boy, but with a spirit that was fed, he became as bold as a lion that he would kill a beastly man Goliath.
