Kindness and Gratitude in the Neighborhood!

DAY 2 OF 7

HESITANT ABOUT CONDO LIVING

I feel like I have been a private person for most of my life.  Years ago, my husband mentioned condo living, and I immediately shot the idea down.  I didn’t like the concept at all.  Little did I know that after his death, my mindset would change.  I still have some qualms about it, but the positive far outweighs the negative.

The oddest thing happened. I closed on the condo at the end of July, but the sellers couldn’t be out until mid-September.  I received in the mail a request to be at the annual Condominium Association Meeting that August and it was to be held in my condo.  Here I was attending a meeting in something I now owned, yet other people that I didn’t know still lived there.  I was a nervous basket case going into my own home, meeting other condo owners that I had never met, sitting around a table that wasn’t mine.

I was introduced to the other board members before the meeting began, but much to my surprise, the Vice-President, by the first name of Jim, opened the meeting with prayer!!!!

When we pray for God’s Spirit to draw others near, we invite His power, and He is able to overcome odds that seem insurmountable to us. “He is the one who breaks open the way before them; they will break out, pass through the gate, and go out by it.  Their king will pass before them, with the LORD at their head.”  Micah 2:13

Now, this impressed me because I believe in prayer.  I was sitting at a table filled with people I did not know; did they all believe this way?  My mind wasn’t focused on the meeting at that moment but wondering what each person believed about God.  His prayer was just what I needed to ease my mind and nerves.

CAN YOU RELATE?

Stop to think for a moment about a situation in your own life, where your nerves got the best of you.  Maybe God didn’t send a person to pray to ease your nerves, but maybe He showed up in another way?  No one at that table denied the vice-president the right to open the meeting with prayer.  This was my first encounter meeting this person, who would be my next-door neighbor and the new President of the Association for the next year.  Because Jim did not let others intimidate him, he shared faith and light that evening.  I walked into an association meeting a stranger and out as their new Secretary.  Join me tomorrow as we learn how what we choose to do among those in our circle has a great influence on one another.
