Daily Bible Reading – October 2021: God’s Word of JusticeSample
October 5
Introduction
Today’s reading opens with a song about a vineyard in which the sins of the people of Jerusalem and Judah are compared to sour grapes. The remaining verses denounce a series of injustices and the punishment that God will mete out.
Today’s Scripture Reading
Isaiah 5:1-30
Today’s Key Verse: Isaiah 5:7a
Israel is the vineyard of the LORD Almighty; the people of Judah are the vines he planted.
Reflect
Verses 1-7 are known as “The Song of the Vineyard,” a traditional wine harvest song used here to describe God’s relationship with the people of Israel and Judah. How is that relationship described? What injustices are denounced in verses 8-24? What will be the consequences of those acts (verses 25-30)? Can you cite examples of injustice that take place today?
Pray
God of justice, help me sow seeds of justice this day, and open my eyes and my heart to the needs of others. In Jesus' holy Name, I pray. Amen.
Prayer Concern
Those who speak out against the perversion of justice
Tomorrow’s Reading
Isaiah 9:8—10:4: Judgment on Israel is pronounced.
