Overcoming Anxiety: Your Biblical Guide To Breaking Free From Fear And Worry Sample
Put Your Confidence in God
Our confidence in God takes many shapes, and the first area where we must develop that confidence is in God’s leadership. We must trust the leadership of the Holy Spirit in order to break free in our thinking.
Here is one way that works. Psalm 23 speaks of God as our shepherd, and in verse 2 we read that He leads us beside quiet waters. That phrase “quiet waters” speaks of peace to me. You want to know why? Because I have a screened-in porch on the back of my house with a tin roof. Ever heard the rain on a tin roof? You could be sitting down having a quiet conversation with someone on the porch, and once that rain hits, you’ll find yourself almost yelling just so the other person can hear you.
Sometimes that white noise can be like a box fan whipping in your ear or the sound of an engine on a 747 taking off right outside your window. It is painfully loud. But God leads us near quiet waters. That is the kind of leader He is. These quiet waters are like the sound of a pond in a valley where you can hear bullfrogs and crickets and the whipping of dragonfly wings.
The world leads us to tin roofs in a rainstorm, but God leads us to still waters. Don’t you want to trust that kind of leadership? I hope so, because let me tell you this: Our leader can be trusted.
Prayer Focus: Spend time with God in prayer and thank Him for His leadership. Read Psalm 23 out loud.
