Through the Bible: Psalmsਨਮੂਨਾ

A Song of Ascents
I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. (Psalms 121:1-2 ESV)
We are all so familiar with the above verses, and we could share hundreds of stories how we were encouraged by it through our different challenges. Psalms 120-134 were named the Songs of Ascents for different reasons, but there’s one I love particularly. This is the song that the pilgrims sang together on their way to the Holy City during the great Jewish feasts in Jerusalem, which required ascending the hills one by one until they reached Zion itself. Imagine yourself all geared up for the expedition. And while you are ascending and looking forward to reaching the top, you can’t help but be in awe of the great creation of our Creator, and be thankful for the strength and faith He has given you throughout your life. How wonderful and amazing is that moment! Doesn’t it sound like our journey on earth? Isn’t it wonderful that we can focus on His strength and beauty so we could have joy on our journey of ascent?
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the reminder from the psalms that no matter how tough, how breathless the journey of ascent is, to focus on the strength You’ve given us, the faith You’ve given to us Lord. By looking up we would see, by seeking we would get from You Lord. Thank You so much for the promise Lord, we pray all these in Jesus mighty name, Amen.
About this Plan

The word psalm is derived from the Hebrew word tehillim, which means “praises," and the Greek word psallein, which means “to pluck.” Thus, Psalms is a collection of poetry sung with stringed instruments. The book records the poets' naked emotions––joy, sorrow, or anger––in the high and low seasons of their life. As John Calvin described it, reading Psalms is like looking into a mirror and seeing our own hearts.
