Victory - Moses’ Brothers

In Exodus 17, we see how God occasionally uses others to help win victories. Whether we are the helper to the Moses in our lives or we are having a Moses moment, many times we cannot accomplish it on our own, we must either be the help or accept help. 

In this passage, God had devised a plan to conquer the Amalekites. He would send Moses along with Aaron and Hur to the top of the hill overlooking the battle with a rod in hand. As long as Moses outstretched his hand over the battle, the Israelites would be winning. When his hands got weary and dropped, they began losing. Why would God do this? Perhaps he wanted to show us the invaluable lesson of brotherhood. Brothers (and sisters) in Christ, that is. We can engage in battles together against the enemy. 

 “And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. But Moses’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.” (Exodus 17:11-12)

Without the help of Aaron and Hur, Moses would not have been able to keep his hands up for the entire day, enough time for the Israelites to defeat their enemy. And we see in the passage that God actually asked Aaron and Hur to go up to the hill with Moses this time. God had a plan. All involved needed to act on and obey to achieve their specific purposes.

“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20)

We were never meant to be islands unto ourselves. Many times in the Bible God conquers, fixes situations, and accomplishes his plans through the actions of many brothers and sisters in Christ working together. Anointing can come in many forms and we are to seek God and find out what the anointing on our lives specifically is. 

Are you anointed to be the pastor? Anointed to be a layman? Anointed to be a businessman? How about a bus driver? What are you called specifically to do that is within God’s plan? It probably has much to do with the desires He has put in your heart and the things you are naturally drawn to. It has to do with personalities, talents, drive, giftings. Everyone can be anointed for a purpose and accomplish God’s plan for their life.

Reflection

Who do you rely on in your life that God has placed there for a specific purpose? My husband frequently tells me, “I couldn’t do this without you.” He can’t do what I do and vice versa. When God places people next to you it is for a reason and remember, they have a purpose to fulfill also.
