Thrive: The Five Pillars of Fruitful RelationshipsSample
Healthy friendships require more than commonalities, convenience, and a good time. They require deep work—work that often starts in our own hearts.
Self Assessment
As we wrap up this plan, we encourage you to complete the self-assessment below and have a close friend also assess you. This will help you pinpoint areas of strength and help you determine areas of growth.
Pillar #1: Commitment
Question: Am I committed to the friendships in my life? (Yes, No, Sometimes)
Reminder: Friendships require a mutual desire and dedication to longevity.
Ask God: To show you the ways you’ve chosen convenience over commitment.
Pillar #2: Communication
Question: Am I a clear communicator? (Yes, No, Sometimes)
Reminder: Communication is the primary tool we use to engage in our friendships.
Ask God: To help you become a better listener and communicator.
Pillar #3: Consistency
Question: Do I show up consistently in my friendships? (Yes, No, Sometimes )
Reminder: Friendships require regularity in order to build trust.
Ask God: To reveal any examples of inconsistency in your relationship with Him and/or others.
Pillar #4: Compassion
Question: Do I show compassion in my friendships? (Yes, No, Sometimes)
Reminder: Compassion invites grace and kindness into our friendships.
Ask God: To reveal his grace and compassion to you in new ways.
Pillar #5: Confession
Question: Do I regularly practice confession in my friendships? (Yes, No, Sometimes)
Reminder: Healthy friendships are built on transparency and vulnerability.
Ask God: To help you cultivate a culture of confession in your relationship with Him and others.
God wants us to thrive in friendships because healthy friendships allow us to experience His love, grace, and goodness. When we build our friendships on the (5) pillars of: Commitment, Communication, Consistency, Compassion, and Confession, we give our friendships the support and security they need to thrive.
Prayer: Father, we thank you for the gift of healthy friendships. We thank you for the way they stretch and develop us, and even more, how they reflect your love for us. Teach us how to steward our friendships in a way that is honoring to others and glorifying to you. Help us to choose commitment, communication, consistency, compassion, and confession in our friendships. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
