Holy Spirit Guides Us
Where do you go for guidance in life?
Who do you speak to for perspective and wisdom on how to do life?
Is it a trusted friend or family member? Perhaps you’re more of an info junky, so Google is one of your best friends?
Now as a follower of Jesus, I have often wished I could ask Jesus directly, in person, what to do. To get Him to be my guide in life. Well, the good news is that Jesus promised his followers a guide; someone to show them how to live this new life we have freely received from Him.
John 16:13-14 CSB When the Spirit of truth comes he will guide you into all the truth. For he will not speak on his own, but he will speak whatever he hears. He will also declare to you what is to come. He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.
Jesus tells us that the Holy Spirit will come to guide his followers. He will tell us what he receives from Jesus. Now, how can we find this promised guidance of the Holy Spirit? How does He tell us what he receives from Jesus?
1. He tells us through the Bible; (The Word of God)
In 2 Timothy 3:17, we see that the Holy Spirit inspired people to write the bible. The Bible is His inspired Word, and He is also the one that reveals what the bible is all about; Jesus.
2. He tells us through the Church; (The people of God)
There are many examples throughout the bible where the Holy Spirit uses the people of God to give guidance to one another. In 1 Corinthians 12:7, we see how the Holy Spirit empowers the people of God with gifts so we can help one another to follow Jesus.
3. He tells us through our thoughts.
In John 14:25-26, Jesus tells us that the Holy Spirit will remind us of what Jesus said. In other words, the Holy Spirit works in our thoughts. He can bring to remembrance the words and work of Jesus.
Prayer:
Take some time in prayer and invite the Holy Spirit to be the Guide of your new life. Showing you how to follow Jesus in every area of your life.
About this Plan
In the person of Jesus, God calls all people not to simply know about Him, but to follow Him with all that we are. Following Jesus daily is more like a habit than it is a moment. Habits are things we do often and regularly, without consciously thinking we have to do them. This 40-day plan will explore life-giving habits to establish us in the new life that Jesus gives.
