Crisis Converted

DAY 4 OF 64

Theme: Who is like God?

Crisis Converted Then:

Having spoken about God’s eternal nature in the previous verses, the prophet now asks the pressing question, “Who is like God?” In the ancient world, no one was secular. Everyone worshipped some form of deity. Most were national or local gods. The prophet declares to the Israelites, who are constantly surrounded by other “deities” that God is unique. In fact, all the other nations (and their gods) are all the same and they amount to nothing. The word used here for nothing is the Hebrew word “tohu.” This is the same word used to describe the nothingness before creation in Genesis 1:1.

Crisis Converted Now:

We have heard it said, “Comparison is the thief of joy.” In most cases, that is completely true. But, there is one case in which comparison might be what establishes joy in our life. God calls upon all people to compare him to any other god or idol. We need to take more time comparing God to the idols of this world. How is God different from the other things we worship?

Day 3Day 5

About this Plan

Crisis Converted

This study from Isaiah 40-55 explores our identity as people affected by trauma but living in hope. In the exile, God’s nation had to find new life when their old life had been completely overturned and destroyed. Similarly, we now find ourselves trying to “return to normal” in the aftermath of a global pandemic. Yet, God can take any crisis and convert it for his glory and our growth.
