New Wine: The Beginning
The beginning of any venture is very important. Take building, for example, the foundation [the beginning] determines what type of structure will go up. How tall a building will be is determined at the foundation [beginning] stage. So, what we do at the beginning is very crucial even to the end of things. In John 2:1-10, John takes us to a wedding, the wedding of Cana. Here, we meet a couple at the beginning of their lives, at the beginning of a covenant relationship, a marriage relationship.
I want you to pay particular attention to what this couple did at the beginning of this very crucial journey, the beginning of the rest of their lives. The Bible says in John 2:1-2 “The next day there was a wedding celebration in the village of Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the celebration.” This couple was very deliberate about their beginning. They began with Jesus. This principle applies to every area in life - business, a career, relationships, a family - everything and anything.
Did this couple know Jesus was a miracle worker? The Bible does not tell us that and from Jesus’ response to Mary in John 2:4, we can assume that only Mary knew what He was capable of at this point. However, this couple surrounded themselves with the right people. You just never know who can turn water into wine, you just never know who can perform miracles. But when you surround yourself with the right people, Godly people, chances are you will have one or two in your camp. Or you will have a Mary in your camp. Even though this couple was unaware of the complications that will arise at their wedding, they got their beginning right, they invited Jesus in.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are the Beginning and the Ending, I begin afresh with You today. I ask for the grace to be the right person in my relationships, as well as surround myself with the right people, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
About this Plan
