Show me your love! 

Jesus desires that disciples show their love for Him through their obedience to His teaching. Our Lord knows we can all learn information and never apply it. He knows we are capable of passing a class, even with high marks, yet with no intent on retaining or practicing anything. Because this is not to the benefit of a disciple, Jesus let His disciples know that the sign of their true love for Him would be their obedience to His Word. By living out what He taught, their faith would increase and their lives would be enriched. The disciple’s example of commitment to Christian principles and practices would lead others to the cross. This means their obedience would empower them to become evangelists simply by the lives they live.

Great teachers desire to reproduce a piece of themselves through their students. The fruit of their labor is in witnessing their student’s application of what they have been taught. Jesus delights in our obedience to His Word because He knows if we are in agreement, we will find His will for our lives. 

So, the next time someone asks you, or you ask yourself, about God’s will and purpose for your life take a moment and think about it. Your response should be one of self-inquiry: How obedient am I to His Word? For obedience reveals purpose!
