Wisdom for Leaders

DAY 2 OF 7

Acquiring Wisdom Starts with Worship

Do you know where you can find wisdom? Do you know where you can find understanding? Can you find it among the living? If so, how hard is it to find? Can you buy it with your credit card? What is its value?

When Solomon became King of Israel, he didn’t launch his new career by seeking information on what a king was supposed to do or by pursuing all the status symbols of his new role. You don’t find Solomon at the local bar celebrating his new leadership position, or at the chariot dealership seeking out the latest sporty chariot, or with his realtor seeking out a vacation property.

Instead, you find Solomon leading his people publicly in worship. He praises God for having placed him in his new position.

Solomon suggests that finding wisdom is actually quite simple. It all begins with a right relationship with God. If we by faith worship God our Redeemer in humble, trusting obedience and acknowledge our dependence on him, then we have begun the journey of discovering wisdom. Godly wisdom places our trust not in what was created, but in the Creator himself. This leads to righteous behavior which results in us living a life that is rich in all of its dimensions both now and forever.

God is the Creator of this world - he has created each one of us, and he is the center of the universe. As we diligently discover and learn new things about the world, we are acquiring wisdom and seeing the evidence of God’s power and purposes. As we develop the skills necessary to live and work where God has placed us, we are developing the skills to be true worshippers of God.

When was the last time you publicly worshipped God for placing you in your role as a leader?

About this Plan

Wisdom for Leaders

As a leader, where do you turn for wisdom? In this devotional series, we will be studying passages about King Solomon. We will see that wisdom starts with worship and requires humility, trust, and curiosity. Wisdom that comes from God will be a blessing to those we lead and will bring glory to our Father in heaven.
