Refiner’s Fire: A 6-Day DevotionalSample
Kyrie Eleison
Prepare:
Become aware of God’s presence. What would you like to say or do in response to Him in this moment?
Read:
❖ Mark 10:46-47
Consider:
“Dear God, be good to me. The sea is so wide and my boat is so small.” (Breton fisherman’s prayer)
Many times it is easy to get overwhelmed by the brokenness of the world and of yourself. Many times people put blinders on so they don’t have to look at the problems of life. Yet this usually leads to more and possibly bigger problems. It’s easier to compare yourself to someone who is worse off than you than to simply look at your own sin and brokenness.
Confessing your sins and your need for God can be uncomfortable. Human beings like to be independent and strong, yet in the face of natural disasters, pandemics, and relational difficulties it is easy to see how much mercy you need. There is freedom to seeing yourself as you truly are, which includes the positive and the negative.
Meditate:
'Kyrie Eleison' is Greek for “Lord, have mercy.”
Where do you need mercy?
Activate:
❖ Spend some time confessing your sins to the Lord.
❖ If you are up to a bigger challenge, confess your sins to a trustworthy person.
❖ Pray the Jesus prayer (“Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner”) throughout your day.
❖ Show mercy to someone who has wronged you or simply irritates you.
❖ Ask the Lord to show you any blind spots in your view of yourself and others.
Prayer:
Father, you are amazing. Please give me whatever I need to be the hands and feet of Christ today. Forgive me as I forgive others. Teach me to walk in step with your Spirit. Lead me away from all that would turn my eyes from you. I love you. Amen
