DO NOT OPEN THE WAY FOR THE DEVIL
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. (1 Peter 5:8)
A football team needs offensive and defensive players. A team that has good attacks in a match but doesn’t have a good defense will eventually lose because the opponent will keep scoring goals.
Offense and defense must be balanced in a football match. The same thing applies to our Christian life. We must preach the word and speak the word of faith; however, we must also not forget to pray, because prayer is our defense against the enemy.
Today’s devotional verse found in 1 Peter 5:8 reminds us to be aware of the devil who is depicted as a roaring lion which is hungry, looking for prey, and circling us. The devil is looking for a way to enter and destroy our lives; therefore, we must always be on the alert.
Being on guard doesn't mean that we should be vigilant and do nothing. If we read Mark 14:38, we know that we have to be on guard by praying, so that we don't fall into temptation. Today, we learn that we must pray because prayer is our defensive wall. We must be diligent in praying because when we pray, we are being on guard. We must be alert and ready to dispel all the tricks of the devil that try to destroy us.
Have we been diligent in praying? Have we built our daily intimacy with the Lord?
Gaps in our defense exist because we are not on guard. Be alert!
