Break Free From InsecuritySample
"The Lies We Believe"
We have believed lies since the beginning of time. The father of lies uses his lies to steal the one thing he knows would give us power, if we just believed it: our identity. If he can effectively steal our identity we will fall for whatever charade he presents, whatever insecurity we allow to dominate our thoughts, words, and actions. And that is where so many of us find ourselves. We have believed a lie for so long we have decided it is just how life is. So we give up, and make ourselves comfortable, getting farther and farther away from our true identity, the person God intended us to be when He created us.
Our insecurities are simply the lies we have believed about ourselves our entire lives. The prison we lock ourselves in is made up of the lies we hold on to and the negative self-talk we indulge in. Any number of sources contribute to the lies we believe about ourselves. Someone said something hurtful and it stuck with you. A parent said they wished they never had you, or gave you up and you have carried that rejection around for years. Your dad never accepted you. You have been told you are not smart enough, good enough, or pretty enough. An ex hurt you, and you believe no one can be trusted. You don’t like the way you look. You believe you’ll never amount to anything. You have a dream you'd like to accomplish, but the fear of failing always wins.
If we believe a lie long enough, our words will reflect that lie, and pretty soon so will our actions. Eventually we will begin to believe the lie as truth, but a lie is, by definition, not true. When we talk about believing lies we must understand that our perception is, or can become, our reality.
Our perception of ourselves, what we believe about ourselves, is the reality in which we live. So in order to live in freedom, we must make sure we are living in truth and not believing lies. How do we do this? We must ask ourselves to whom are we listening? Are we entertaining the lies of the enemy, or do we hear the voice of our Shepherd? We check our inner thoughts and make sure they align with God’s Word. A lie will always steal our true identity.
