Uncommen: House Divided

DAY 2 OF 5

That Double Minded Man

James 1: 5-8 - "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways."

Today the "house" in our "house divided" illustration is our minds.

A double-minded man is unstable, indecisive, and ineffective. Certainly, some decisions in life are challenging, but how often do we unnecessarily struggle with choices?

Here are a few examples:

Difficult Decisions

  • What career should I pursue?
  • Should I marry this person?
  • Should I accept this job?
  • Should I start my own business?
  • When should I have children?
  • Should I buy that car/house?

Decisions We Make Difficult

  • Should I save money?
  • Should I help in the community?
  • Should I attend church?
  • Should I try to make friends?
  • Should I come to Christ?

For most of these, we're aware that we should, but we get caught up in the how. How should I save money, how should I help my community? We should be wise in how we approach these questions but not stuck. Let's make Godly decisions.

How can we make Godly decisions

James 1:5 - "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him."

I realized many years ago that I needed to pray for as much wisdom as I could get, and it's my most common prayer to God. Let's ask God for wisdom in our decisions.

Uncommen Questions:

Do you pray for wisdom?

Are you double-minded?

 Uncommen Challenge:

Ask for God's wisdom.

About this Plan

Uncommen: House Divided

Join us as we take a look at how unstable a house can become when it’s divided. The Bible calls it like it is and says, “that house cannot stand.” What are you doing to keep your house stable?
