Good Friday

DAY 2 OF 4

Do you know anyone who used to go to church or who used to have a close relationship with God but now they’ve drifted away?

Luke 15 shows us God’s heart for people who maybe have never known Jesus or those who used to know Jesus but have drifted.

The prodigal son is a parable about a son who asked his father for his inheritance early. The father gave it to him and immediately the son left and squandered his wealth. He lost everything and had to work feeding pigs just to get by.

At his lowest, he thought about his father and how his servants at least lived better than he did. Perhaps he could get a job as a servant in his father’s house. Perhaps he could beg his dad to let him come home. So, he got up and went to his father.

The Bible says that while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and ran to him. He kissed him and threw him a welcome home party! The son didn’t even have a chance to beg, he was immediately welcomed home.

God truly is the good Father who wraps His arms around the prodigal son, loves him, meets him where he is, and welcomes him to come back home. No questions asked. No begging needed. No servants’ quarters but a full-blown welcome home party!

If there are people in your life who are similar to this prodigal son, God wants to welcome them back home. Whether they’ve known God for a while or not, He longs to have a relationship with them.

As you’re going after your friends this week, focus on the grace and love of God. I want to challenge you to remind your friends and family members that God loves them and believes in them even if they may not believe in God anymore.

Even if it’s just you telling them that you are praying for them, God can and will use it. We share our faith not because we are perfect people, but because we are broken and we know the perfect one. Let’s watch God use us to change the lives of those around us.
