Christ's Resurrection: A Truth Worth Accepting!

DAY 1 OF 5

Are You Open To the Truth?

Jesus on the cross. Quite the extraordinarily selfless gesture for Him to make, right?

The Romans weren’t messing around. They didn’t put people on the cross to inflict a little torture. They put them there to hang, in excruciating pain, for hours, if not days, to publicly ridicule and kill them. The Romans perfected this inhumane practice to punish the most serious of criminals.

But Jesus wasn’t a criminal.

So why did they treat Him as one? And if Jesus really was God, why did He allow it?

These were the questions in my mind when I set out, many years ago, to disprove the resurrection. Because if it wasn’t real, then the Bible wasn’t real — and neither was God.

On the one hand, Christians believe Jesus to be the fulfillment of ancient biblical prophecy, God in human form, the promised Savior of the world.

Skeptics, just as strongly, assert that if Jesus were a real person, He was likely just one teacher, among many, who claimed to offer truth.

But God in the flesh? And then He died and resurrected? Ridiculous.

Once a diehard skeptic myself, I can understand their stance.

Back in college, when I was challenged by some Christian students to disprove Christianity, I tried my best. In fact, I wanted nothing more than to rub their faces in their faith! I actually said these words: “Christianity? That’s for unthinking weaklings, not intellectuals like myself!”

I thought Christians were just plain stupid for believing any of it: the virgin birth, the miracles, and especially the resurrection.

But after months of meticulous research in libraries across Europe, I had to admit that I could no longer ignore THE FACTS: Jesus had, in fact, lived. And there was strong proof that He resurrected. His disciples were certainly sold on the idea -- and all but one was murdered for maintaining this claim.

To remain intellectually honest (and keep my self-respect), I had to be willing to abandon my personal bias against Christianity. Was I happy about this? No ... and yes.

Nobody likes to have egg on their face. But, man, am I ever grateful that God showed me the truth so that I didn’t miss out on a relationship with Him. And I get to spend eternity with Him!

Friends, Jesus lived and died a horrendous death to cover OUR sins. Let’s look at facts that support His resurrection.

Reflection:

What does Jesus’s resurrection mean to you? Does His sacrifice matter to you? Do you recognize that you are SO LOVED by God that Jesus came to prove it to YOU?
