90 Days to Wholeness: A Porn Addiction Recovery Devotional for WomenSample
We’re now 14 days in and the whole purpose behind this 90 Days to Wholeness has been to help keep you accountable to a 90 Day Abstinence from compulsive sexual behaviors in order to achieve sobriety.
In A L.I.F.E. Guide for Women by Marnie Ferree, she explains, “a healthy recovery program with transformation as the goal requires a total, absolute abstinence period from all sexual activity and intentional sexual thoughts.”
You might be thinking, “if I haven’t been able to abstain yet, what makes you think I can do it now?” The answer is this: you likely haven’t truly been asked to abstain before (but more of a self-induced decision) and it’s even more likely that you’ve never had a support system or the proper tools to make it possible.
Without some form of initial abstinence, there is no recovery, there is no transformation. As an addict, there are physical elements of your behavior that are outside your control now which require abstinence to overcome (neurochemical triggers in the brain that are associated with sexual behavior). Abstinence detoxifies your brain, giving you a real, fighting chance to beat this thing for good!
What does abstinence look like for you? What do you believe is achievable? (examples: stop watching porn, stop masturbating, delete dating apps, let go of an affair partner, etc.).
