Year of Yes

DAY 5 OF 5

The natural response of carrying any burden for too long is to pass it to another.  Only Jesus can ultimately carry the full weight of our burdens.

Following Jesus requires a change of possession.

Simon carried the cross and then had to hand it over to Christ fully. There would have been a time of surrendering the cross back to Jesus after that long walk to the place called “Golgotha”. Simon could only carry the cross so far before the penalty of death was required. Simon was not able or worthy to redeem the lives of others; we cannot live out a life of obedience in our own strength. There has to be a hand-off!

We are not able to carry the cross on our own. Jesus alone was worthy to take the cross and pay our debts. Jesus went to such great and gruesome measures in order to demonstrate His love and to deliver us. Jesus is worthy and able to take the weight of the cross.

As we say yes to Jesus, we celebrate Him and say YES to Him, driven by love.

QUESTIONS

We must daily recognize our need for Jesus. Have you come to a place of surrender, recognizing that you are only able to carry your cross so far?

Have you believed in your heart and confessed with your mouth that Jesus died and was risen from the grave for the forgiveness of your sins?

Say yes to Jesus today and invite him into your life.

About this Plan

Year of Yes

Join Hillsong East Coast’s online experience and walk through this corresponding plan. This plan is based on Pastor Matt Bartgis's January 2021 message, "Year of Yes". Read through God’s Word within each devotional and reflect through guided questions for both individual consideration and group discussion. We pray it encourages you to reframe your reality.
