Remember, Ponder, ConsiderSample
“The Love For Reading”
I was browsing in a bookstore the other day and noticed how many new titles were on the shelves from Filipino authors. I still remember when all the Filipino titles were all together in one section. Today, there are Filipino authors featured under General Fiction, several more under Inspirational, a number are under Self-Help, Lifestyle and Travel. And, not surprisingly, there are always several titles from Filipino authors in the Children's section. There's no question about it, more and more Filipinos are writing and having their writings published. Question is, are Filipinos reading them?
Judging from informal surveys and book club reports, there is less and less reason to say Filipinos aren't readers. We read, and we read a lot. We do it offline and we do it online. We get our recommendations from bookstore browsing mostly, but also from reviews and endorsements. There's no substitute to reading if we are to keep learning. How can we forget that famous line from Dr. Seuss? "The more that you read, the more things you'll know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."
So, friend, what book are you reading now? Something to consider, from one friend to another.
