Let God, Lose Weight by Healthy by DesignSample
Letting Go by Entering God's Rest
There is no letting go without 'letting God.'
It means that you will commit to letting God be Lord over your life by giving Him your fears, insecurities, and emotions when you experience a stressful situation.
Letting go is a commitment and a decision to take a deep breath and give the situation to God instead of going into your automatic response.
You may be asking, "But how do I enter into His rest?" This is what we will be practicing starting today.
Entering into His rest is a practice of choosing to depend solely on Him and not your own efforts; to trust Him implicitly despite what your emotions, past circumstances, or what your intellect may tell you. And to yield totally to the promises of God. That's the process of letting go and letting God.
Letting go by itself without putting your trust in God becomes reliance on the process. It becomes a tool that you try without any power, in and of itself. We enter into that place of rest through Christ alone. Unlike the Israelites whose unbelief prevented them from entering the Promised Land, we are called to enter God's rest by faith in Him—not through belief in our own strength.
One of the main reasons you don't achieve your healthy weight is because there is too much anxiety about the outcome. But when you can understand that God calls us to rest in Him, you can let go of the anxiety. You can trust that He will lead you and guide you when you reach out to Him. This means, when you stop trusting your intellect and put your trust in God's promises. That's the only way.
We were never meant to carry our burdens on our own, and we were never meant to try to fix ourselves on our own.
Action Steps
Although it will seem cumbersome initially, today you're going to begin practicing 'letting go' by paying attention to at least one toxic thought that often sabotages you. As a toxic thought comes into your mind that could potentially sabotage your weight loss efforts, give it over to God.
Reflect
1. How have you tried to let go in the past, and what will be different this time?
2. Why can 'trying' to let go make the journey even more frustrating?
3. What keeps you from experiencing God's rest? Hebrews 4:3
Prayer
"Lord, I desire to rest in you and you alone. Let me not get confident in my abilities to help myself. I let go by giving you full reign in my life. Take control of my thoughts. Please ease my mind when guilt seeps in. My days are busy, but in you, I feel a relief. When daily pressures feel heavy, remind me to lighten my load by releasing the weight to you. You teach me in Your Word that I am not created to carry my burdens alone. In You, I find comfort. Lord Jesus, restore my soul from all that I drag behind me. With open hands, I feel your restoration as you fill me with your never-ending love and wholeness. Lord, rejuvenate me with your Word. Bless me with new strength and a lightened spirit as I go forward in this day with an awareness of who I am in you—a created daughter of love and light. Amen."

About this Plan
We waste so much time trying to lose weight, but we keep putting it back on. We think it's as simple as saying, "I lack discipline, therefore if I work on my discipline, then I'm good. Or, I just need to work on my self-control. However, those are just band-aid solutions. There's a deeper reason you keep yo-yo dieting--that's what you will discover in the devotional.
