The Wise Men

The Wise Men followed a star in the sky from thousands of miles. Why? Who would do that? Well, they wanted to meet and worship Jesus. Each man brought a gift. A gift for a King. The first wise man brought a gift of gold. The second brought a gift of frankincense which was oil, and the third, a gift of myrrh, which was perfume. Why did they give such an expensive gift to a baby? Well, these gifts were to acknowledge that Jesus was and is the one true King. During that time, these were the kinds of gifts to give a king.

Matthew 2:2 says, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw the star in the east and have come to worship him.”

Seeing that verse allows us to check our hearts. What is our reason for celebrating Christmas? Is it only for the presents that give each other? Is it only about being good for the year to receive our wish list?  

What the Wise Men show us is that we should be seeking out Jesus everyday in our life. That true reason behind Christmas is to remember the true gift that was given to us by God. That is Jesus.
