On the Road With Jesus to ChristmasSample
A dime will never be worth a quarter!
Have you ever heard of this expression? If you are born as a dime, you will never be worth a quarter. If you grow up in a certain class in society, it will be difficult to transit into a ‘higher’ class. There are so many stories known about the class differences. Somehow, that is still in our minds and experiences.
The story of Mary shows something else. We discover God's perception of people. First of all, I notice that the unborn child in Elisabeth’s womb responds to the arrival of Mary. How special is that? I know from my own wife that during pregnancy, she often indicated that our child would respond to exterior sounds. The Bible shows that children live in the womb of the mother.
The greeting from Elisabeth's womb and the encounter with her aunt, impassioned Mary. She starts singing with joy. In her mind, she gets a clear picture of the future. She saw herself as an ordinary girl. Perhaps she was concerned about her life. She unexpectedly became pregnant. People must have been gossiping about her. She had not gone to Elisabeth in vain. Possibly to escape the hassle in her village. And what about her fiancé Joseph?
In the midst of all this, God saw her. He showed her His reality and how He viewed her. Mary would become someone she could never have imagined. An ordinary person whose life does matter.
For us, it’s no different. God does not look at status and descent. God sees you as you are. Unique, wanted by Him, and with an intention. Do not doubt that. Be sure God cares about you. He has His eyes upon you.
