DAY 3 OF 7

As we are becoming who God is making us to be, there will be distractions along the way.

Many of the pains, trials and challenges we face in life are unavoidable. You cannot endure this world without ever encountering moments to overcome. But the Spirit of God empowers us to become overcomers.

Self-doubt has a subtle way of creeping in and keeping us from pursuing all God has for us. It is natural to doubt and question ourselves, but if we let it, self-doubt can keep us from pursuing what God has for us, and from simply pursuing God.

Doubts and insecurities are something we all deal with, some of us more than others. But they can be crippling if we let them.

In many ways, our doubts are like a cloud we create for ourselves to exist within, full of anxiety, confusion, comparisons, and fear. It is a cloud that fogs our vision, our clarity of thought, and drowns our hope. All of these things, while utterly human, can delay and deeply hinder us from fully living for God.

Sometimes we lean on doubt, almost as a false sense of humility. But oddly enough, feeding these insecurities only keeps us deeper within ourselves. Self-doubt and false humility only hold us continually consumed with self. And the more we ruminate in self-doubt, the less open we are for God to work in and through us. In culture, perfection is prized, and we often put that expectation upon ourselves.

Rather than spending your time discouraged, anxious, and distracted over your imperfections, view them as an opportunity for God to operate more fully in you. Because the more God can work through us, the more we can allow God to be active in us as he intended, and all the more consistent and rich his presence can be in our lives.

When moments of doubt begin to arrest you, see them as an opportunity for God to move in you more. Remember, Jesus didn’t come to make us perfect. He came to be made perfect in our weaknesses (2 Corinthians 12:9). He came for his love to be made complete through our flaws.

If we want to work toward a life free of self-doubt and insecurity, we must fix our focus entirely on his grace and goodness. Only then will we be able to engage the presence and power of God as he intended.
