One Thing
Negative behaviors will destroy our lives and rob us of the potential God has for us. For me, it was years of addictive spending. All of that came to a screeching halt in 2008 when I found myself up against a financial wall I couldn’t climb. I spent my life serving God and committed to His call on my life, all the while not taking the time to deal with some real behavior issues.
Jesus is a master at directing us to the real issue. In an encounter with a rich man, Jesus looked at him and loved him. He loved the rich man enough to tell him about the one thing that still held him back—the love of wealth and possessions. And it’s often just one thing that trips us up, isn’t it?
But, we have to forgive ourselves and move on. Paul explained the one thing he does. He forgets what is behind. He looks forward to what lies ahead in God’s plan for him! Today I still fight the rhythm of negative behavior, but I acknowledge it as sin, forgive myself, and continue to pursue Him.
