Have You Ever Wondered How to Be Still?

DAY 3 OF 5

Be Still...

When we think of stillness, we easily equate it with peace, calm, quiet. It is that moment of rest we long for when our circumstances and emotions get a little crazy. We often pray for stillness, asking God to give us his peace. And he does.

But the Bible shows us that being still isn’t only an inner peace; it is an action to be taken. We are commanded: “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him” (See Psalm 37:7).

It is a choice we have to make, the decision to cease striving. It is an act of worship in a sense—when we recognize our place and allow God to take his. By acknowledging his holiness and sovereignty, we relinquish control and accept his lordship over our lives.

Habakkuk 2:20 puts it very simply: “The Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth be silent before him.” Stillness isn’t actually about us; it is about him.

It is this stillness that allowed for Jesus to be asleep in the boat in the midst of a storm. And from that place he was able, by the power of God, to take authority and quiet the storm. (See Mark 4:37-41)

Take a moment to examine the areas of your life where you long for stillness. Could it be that you need to cease striving and surrender control of something? I pray you are able to find that stillness and watch in awe as God’s glory unfolds.

About this Plan

Have You Ever Wondered How to Be Still?

In today's climate it’s easy to get swept up in the chaos and be left wondering how to find time to be refreshed. Time with God often gets left at the bottom of our to-do list and we find ourselves burnt out and still craving fulfillment. Join some C3 college students as they talk about the counter-culture of finding refreshment from being still with God in the chaos.
