Surrender: Giving God 100%Sample
Surrender: Giving God 100%
Ready:
“Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘If any of you wants to be My follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow Me.’” – Matthew 16:24
Set:
We’re surrendered and all in for our sport. We give 100 percent on the field, and off the field, we prepare and study and sacrifice our time so we can be fully engaged with our team and focused on the competition. It’s good to be dedicated, but sometimes our sports can become too much of our priority and we overlook why we compete in the first place. It’s all about where we place priorities in our hearts. Have we truly surrendered first and foremost to God, giving Him our full attention?
Surrender means to stop resisting and submit to authority. We bristle at this because we like to be the captain of our own ship, but the truth is we’re not our own captains. To be willing to surrender, we must realize God is the Creator and Sustainer of the entire universe. He is the one who is in control of all things and has true authority over our lives. Once we understand this, and what He has done for us, our hearts are filled with a desire to gladly submit every area of our lives.
There is so much God has done for us; He is the source of our existence, the heart of our joy. He loved us so much so we could have life, and we are made in His image. God sacrificed His one and only Son, Jesus, to take away the sins of the world so we could have complete access to the Father, both now and for eternity. Our lives are not our own. Doesn’t this good news garner our attention? Shouldn’t God’s sacrifice be so humbling and amazing to us that we can’t help but want to give our all back to Him?
What could we be surrendering more of? Our time? Our hearts? More of our lives to God, who gave His all to save us from our sins and bring us into fellowship with Him?
Over the next three days, we will explore the ways we are encouraged to surrender to God through our time, talent, and treasure. But for today, remember God’s perfect love for us, what He gave and sacrificed to bring us fullness of life, and how it’s an honor to live our lives back in glory to Him.
Go:
1. What does surrender look like to you?
2. What do you need to surrender to God?
3. Take a minute and ask God how you can give Him your best today.
Workout:
Psalm 9:10; Luke 9:23; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Overtime:
Father, thank You that You have sent Your Son to die for my sins and rise again. Thank You that You have opened the gates of Heaven to me, and that I can boldly come before You as Your child. Help me surrender my sport, my agenda, and my life to You for Your glory. Amen.
