Jesus Only: Part One

DAY 23 OF 35

Week 4, Day 2 - Monday

Go to a quiet place by yourself to read Colossians 1:24-29, slowly and aloud two times.

First Reading: Pick out some key ideas or concepts. What did you notice?

Second Reading: Pick out key words or phrases. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you what they mean. This isn’t usually instant. It will happen over your whole week, maybe even longer.

Meditate on these.

What questions do you have that would help you understand this passage better?

Scripture:

"I (Paul) am glad when I suffer for you (believers at Colossae) in my body, for I am participating in the sufferings of Christ that continue for his body, the church. God has given me the responsibility of serving his church by proclaiming his entire message to you. This message was kept secret for centuries and generations past, but now it has been revealed to God’s people. For God wanted them to know that the riches and glory of Christ are for you Gentiles, too. And this is the secret: Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing his glory.

So we tell others about Christ, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all the wisdom God has given us. We want to present them to God, perfect in their relationship to Christ. That’s why I work and struggle so hard, depending on Christ’s mighty power that works within me."

The following short video helped me get the bigger picture of Colossians and understand what was going on at Colossae. This might be a review for some:

About this Plan

Jesus Only: Part One

With many options to turn to for peace, security, and fulfillment, is Jesus enough? Many have developed a "Jesus And" approach to life based on comfort, success, income, or image. If we're honest, is "Jesus Only" our source for a fulfilling and purposeful life? Journey through the book of Colossians to help you answer these questions. This plan runs Sunday through Saturday for five weeks.
