Certainty Amid Uncertainty Sample
Jesus is My Strength
These days, thanks to the vivid descriptions found in Psalm 46, in our journey we discover that even if we are surrounded by uncertainty, we can confidently learn to put our trust in God and experience peace in Him. The psalmist describes tangible threats that endanger his life. It seems as if nature itself is in rebellion against him: the earth is shaking under his feet, and what used to be stable is becoming unstable. His choice is exemplary––he decides not to fear. Instead, he chooses to worship God and declare that He is his Rock, Refuge, and Strength.
The order through which the poet describes God is an interesting choice:
1. God is my Rock (stability, foundation)
2. God is my Refuge (shelter, protection)
3. God is my Strength (character development amid difficulties)
In stressful times, bad news, disappointments, fear, and anxiety steal and weaken our strength. When we face difficulties such as no job, no promotion, no vacation, financial challenges, no prom, isolation, and health threats, to name a few, disappointment knocks on our door. The impatience that is born out of the uncertain return to “normal life” drains us of our energy and robs us of our strength and joy. If we allow these feelings to rule over us, we will soon become angry and frustrated.
What is stealing your joy and strength? Is it relational conflicts? Is homeschooling your children testing your patience or pointing out the absolute lack of it? My dear brother or sister, if you allow God to work in you in this difficult time, you will come out of it refined, forever changed, full of faith, patience, and strength.
Do not waste this trial. Focus on prayer and meditate on who God is and what He has done for you. Remember that God’s power is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9–11.) It is only when we recognize that we need to grow in a specific area of our lives that we ask God to help us and intervene on our behalf.
Declare
Jesus, You are my Strength. I know that I am not perfect and that sometimes I become impatient when my faith is tested, but I will not fear, and I will not allow my feelings to steal the joy that is found in You. I trust that You will give me all the strength I need to come out of uncertainty full of certainty.
