Faith as Small as a Mustard Seed
Sometimes a Bible passage becomes so familiar that—without thinking—we assume we understand and are living by its truth. But we might need to take a second look.
For example, Jesus said, “…Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you” (Matthew 17:20, NIV).
Do we really believe that?
I used to read these verses and think Jesus was just exaggerating to make a point about the power of faith. Because we can’t literally move mountains … can we? Mountains are big .
But I think He was being quite serious. We can change the world that dramatically through the power of faith. We must simply believe that God indwells us and empowers us through His Spirit, and believe that change starts with us—with our decision to trust God with all things, big
and small.
I know that even a small act of faith can result in a large harvest, because the Jesus, who raised the dead to life in the New Testament, is still alive and active today.
In John 14:12, Jesus says plainly that through His followers, the Holy Spirit will continue performing miracles. In fact, He says that we “will do even greater things than these."
That’s a huge promise—and an empowering one.
If we know that even a small amount of faith can bear fruit, and that Jesus Himself promised we’d be able to do greater acts than He did, what are we waiting for?
Plant your mustard seed of faith, and watch how God blesses the harvest.
