Moving Beyond With What You HaveSample
DAY FIVE: You Were Made For This
We all remember what it was like to line up in gym class in elementary school, hoping to get chosen by a team captain, rather than assigned to a team by default because we were the last ones left standing. The anxiety would subside only if your friend was a team captain or you were particularly skilled at the sport you were playing—or at least knew how to talk yourself up. If I’m being honest, though, that feeling of worrying about not being liked or good enough or chosen can still creep in, even in adulthood.
The good news is that God has chosen us. We sometimes think we chose Him when we invited Him into our hearts and our lives, but He chose us first when He created us and stood outside the door of our hearts and knocked. Jesus says in John 15:16, “You did not choose Me, but I chose you” and He continues by saying He had already decided on you so that you might succeed and bear lasting fruit. He not only chose us, but He also has set us up for success!
God’s plans for each of us were all laid out before we even existed. He knew us and had our days numbered as He stitched us together in our mother’s womb. He was thinking of His plans to prosper us and give us hope as He was shaping us into being. He created each one of us so purposefully and so intentionally, without error. To top it off, Psalm 139:17 tells us His thoughts toward us are precious and are so vast, they cannot be counted. We are so loved and so prized! Let us not get caught up in what others say or what we think about ourselves, but always remember: We were created on purpose for a purpose.
Write down a list of qualities you possess, both the ones you like and the ones you don’t like, and ask God to reveal to you why those qualities work to your advantage. What’s one way you have seen a seemingly negative quality of yours be displayed like a superpower instead?
