Loving the Poor

DAY 7 OF 7

Eternally Rich

We share Jesus because there is spiritual poverty. We give a cup of cold water in Jesus’ name. Sure, we want to help people materially, but that is an on-ramp to helping others eternally. We want the Lord to come into their life so th

at they place their faith in Jesus. It’s a powerful thing!

If you are spiritually poor, I want you to know that Jesus Christ loves you,

and you can place your faith in Christ alone. He can save your life and your heart. You can trust Jesus. If you have come to Christ and live experiencing His wealth, step out of your comfort zone and begin to make a difference. Use your giftedness, share your resources, give of your time, and bless others with the good news. Think about how God can use you to help others.

Jesus said, “They cannot pay you back. But God will bless you and reward you when His people rise from death.” You will be the blessed one. In a world that is always thinking of the best investments and how to make more in stocks and whatnot, Jesus is saying to give to those who cannot give you anything in return, because God will bless you. Your repayment will come with eternal rewards. Isn’t this great?

There is a Turkish proverb that says, “Do good and throw it into the sea.” Nobody has to know the good you do. There is no need to brag. God knows and sees you. He is delighted in you loving others.

It is better to give than it is to receive. Stop looking for the payback and care for those in need. Break the mindset of “What’s in it for me?” Serve and love the elderly, the poor, the hungry. That is a blessing to the Lord. That is being God’s hands and feet here on Earth. Your repayment will come in eternal benefits.

The book of Proverb says that being kind to the poor is a loan to the Lord. You are giving to the Lord. Here is the truth about being a Christian: The rewards are greater and longer for the follower of Jesus Christ. It’s not just something today, it’s something for all of eternity.

Pray this prayer as you begin to live a life loving the poor. “Father, we thank You that You came to us in our tattered rags, spiritually. I pray that I never become “too good” to love others because You were not too good for us. You wrapped us in forgiveness, love, and grace. Father, in that same way, may I have compassion for those in poverty. You have a different path for different lives, but Lord, let me be in tune with how I can bless others. I trust You. Use me. Do Your work in me. In Your name, amen.”

Day 6

About this Plan

Loving the Poor

We are spiritually poor until we come to Jesus. In Him alone we are made spiritually rich. Will you let that be an on-ramp to loving the poor? Honor God by honoring those in need and you will be the blessed one!
