All In

DAY 1 OF 31

"All In" comes from Acts 2:42-47, where the Holy Spirit fell on Jesus's disciples and transformed the hearts and lives of everyone present on the Day of Pentecost. We can see this kind of activity today, but that expectation is not without some action on our part this side of heaven.

Early in Jesus’ ministry, disciples of John came to Jesus, asking, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?” Jesus responded, “While the bridegroom is here we celebrate, but a time will come when My disciples will fast,” Matthew 9:14-15 (my paraphrase).

That time to fast is here! Some of you still may be less than convinced. Here’s the truth: fasting is an incredible discipline used to seek the heart of God like never before. Fasting enhances prayer and brings a whole new dimension to this discipline and our walk with God. If you're still not sure, I challenge you to meditate and read Isaiah 58:1-12, because this is why the Lord calls us to fasting.

We don't fast to lose weight, have more time to work, or even to get what we want. It's the time to seek the Lord for you, your family, and our spiritual family. Imagine all that the Lord desires to do for us, in us, and through us. If you are physically able to do so, will you consider fasting?

Now is also the time to meditate on the theme verses from Acts 2:42-47. While you’re reading, ask yourself: are you 'all in' like the early disciples were in this passage?

Here are some practical steps I use when fasting:

1. Plan the number of times you will fast.

2. During meal times, find a place to pray. As your body stores up energy to digest food, you’ll instead use that energy to seek God. Remember, this is a holy time, set apart for Him.

3. During prayer times, pray the scriptures included here because you know this is His will for you.

4. Believe God will meet you as you pray. Believe you’ll hear from heaven and be ready to obey. This is a great time to intercede for the needs of others, not just yourself.

5. List the miracles you are asking the Lord for and be very careful to give Him all the glory for His answers. Share with your small group the things you are believing for God to do. Journal what you believe the Lord is saying to you!

6. Fasting is a private matter and is not to be bragged about. We are looking, fasting, and praying for a mighty move of God, not for attention.

7. Spend some time praying for your church and the revival that God is going to send. Please pray for your pastor and leaders, too!

Get ready for a spiritual adventure, for greater victory in the spiritual realm, and for God to deliver the captive and the oppressed. This is a fast to set us free from the yoke that would enslave us, as Paul writes in Galatians 5:1,  "It was for freedom that Christ set us free."

About this Plan

All In

"All In" comes from Acts 2:42-47, where the Holy Spirit fell on Jesus's disciples and transformed the hearts and lives of everyone present on the Day of Pentecost. Over the next month, these devotions and verses by Faith Promise pastors and staff will lay out God’s plan to mobilize us to bring about the next great move of God.
