Finding Peace During Troubled TimesSample

Finding Peace During Troubled Times

DAY 7 OF 7

BE A HELPING HAND

Don't you just love it when a neighbor, friend, or church member lends you a hand with something?

Let's face it, much of life is dependent on the help from others. And so, as you and someone you know is facing some heavy burdens, ask yourself, what can I do to brighten their day?

In the pages of the New Testament, there was a certain man who did just that for the apostle Paul. Not much is mentioned about him, but he certainly was an amazing example of someone who helped meet the needs of others. The man's name is Tychicus. As you read about him, it's quite clear that Tychicus was a very dependable and loyal Christian who Paul relied on heavily during difficult times (Ephesians 3:13; 6:21, 22). As a matter of fact, in writing to the church in Colossae, Paul expressed his fondness of Tychicus by stating, "He is a beloved brother and faithful minister and fellow servant of the Lord" (Colossians 4:7).

You see, friend, it's easy to forget the needs of others when you're so concerned with your own needs. But, like Tychicus, God has called you to be a faithful friend who is willing and able to serve the people around you. That even though you may feel down, you can still be used by God to be a pick-me-up to those who feel discouraged.

So, lend a hand today, and watch and see how your act of kindness can brighten the day of someone near and dear to your heart.

Prayer: Oh Lord, I know that You came to earth, not to be served, but to serve—and that you gave up Your life so that I can have eternal life. Help me to be more like You, and to be a friend like Tychicus was to Paul. I humbly ask that you move on my heart to care more for others and to serve them above my own needs. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!

Action Steps: Make a list of people you know who need help with various things and let each one know that you want to lend them a hand.
