Love God Greatly: RisenSample
Isaiah 25:8-9 offers an incredible promise. A first-century Jew would have memorized these words after hearing them repeatedly read in a synagogue. The followers of Jesus had recognized Him as the Messiah, the one who would come and remove death, wipe away their tears, and remove their disgrace. He would deliver them and lift them up, and they expected Him to do great things on earth. But then He died.
On that day between His death and resurrection, Jesus’ followers may have wondered if they had been wrong about Him. He had delivered them from sin, but they still lived in a world filled with pain and sorrow and disgrace.
Living on this side of the resurrection, we still experience death, sorrow, and disgrace. He has not yet removed these things from us. Because of His resurrection, we know there is more to come. We know He will return to earth again and deliver us from this broken world. We can wait for Him, confident that He will deliver us on that day!
Lord Jesus, we wait for You. We wait expectantly for Your deliverance. You have delivered us from the power of sin, and you will deliver us from death in the resurrection. We rejoice and celebrate Your deliverance. Amen.
