Getting To Know The Real You

DAY 9 OF 9

Think about a clothing brand, musician, or sports team you or your friends love. Not just one you casually follow, but one you're willing to identify with. Whether it’s Yeezys or a football team, what people wear in says something about who they are and what they’re about.

Paul shares a similar idea in 1 Corinthians 15 when he says believers are to bear the image of Jesus. Only in this case, we don’t show what we’re about in branded apparel. We show who we’re for in the way we live. Our words, choices, and actions show others what it means to belong to Jesus.

We get to reflect Jesus’ character to the world. To do this effectively, we need to see as Jesus saw. This is why Paul urges us to turn our attention to what’s eternal.

“... whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things” (Philippians 4:8).

It is easy to get swept up in stuff that will only matter on earth — money, status, relationships, followers, the group chats you’re in or out of. A heavenly perspective shifts our focus to those things that will last into eternity —  our relationships with God and others.

Aligning our perspective with Jesus’ perspective happens as we read the Bible and talk to Him. He wants us to rep Him well. So as you have questions, ask. And where you feel Him lead you, follow.

Reflect:

  • When people look at your life, what would they say you care about?
  • Are you more concerned with this world or the one to come?
  • Where do you need Jesus’ perspective to shape your own? Let Him know and ask for His help.

About this Plan

Getting To Know The Real You

With so many different people telling us who we are, or who we should be, how do we know who’s right? We think the One who made us should get to define us. Read this plan to discover who God says you are and find your identity in Him.
